Filton, Bristol

During university, I worked in a couple of mini studios. I worked as both a level designer and gameplay programmer, often adapting to what was needed by the team at the time.

Term time, I mostly worked in Unity or in C++ using SFML. I was involved in a range of responsibilities including:

> Level Design & Architecture

> Player Inputs & controls

> Combat & Enemy ai

> Particle systems

> Various Camera systems (eg. 1st person, 3rd person, spline, etc)

> Collectables & Item interactions

> GitHub Source Control - Setting Up Repos, Wikis and Issues

Outside of term time, I worked a lot in Unreal Engine & and participated in game jams. Most recently the Mini Jame Gam #22.

I led the teams in a studio-esque style with timelines, task boards, deadlines, scrums, LinkedIn commendations etc. Often using Github and Monday.com as my primary team organisation tools.

2022 - 2023

Fantastic confidence, interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Often I was sent out to announce events, stock shortages etc. as I managed to deliver good and bad news in a way that didn't distress customers or staff.

My primary focus as a leader was team morale. To improve the work environment, I stayed flexible and adaptable so I could support colleagues by taking on less favourable tasks in exchange for challenges they could take on.

Education

2021 - 2024

University of the West of England

BSc - Games Technology

Filton, Bristol

The degree provided gameplay programming principles such as OOP, classes & functions, smart pointers, UML diagrams and problem solving. I focused primarily on player controls and particle systems to make my games feel tangible.

Additionally, we learned about Game-level design ideologies such as the Nintendo approach vs an archetectual approach. I personally prefer the Nintendo approach in which levels are tailored to teach the player about gameplay mechanics.

I was also taught about game engine architecture implementation and how to build systems for designers to smooth the  development process. Along with, source control was also a big focus of our course, I would take a lead in creating wiki's, issues & repos for teams.
